Harvest Festival, A Review, by: Melody
This year's Harvest Fest was a really fun day to spend time with your friends. There was a bouncy castle with a slide, so that when your time is up, you could slide down. There was a little photo booth, with haystacks where you can sit on to take photos with multiple people and they had little sticks with pictures on it like a little hat, a mustache, and more. King of the hill is where two people are giving a small pool noodle and should knock over the opponent off the haystack or to knock off the pool noodle from the other person’s hands. Face painting was near the garden and the face painters would take any suggestions you like. The bike racing track is where you can race yourself by time, or your friends. They provide different bike sizes and helmet sizes for anyone that wanted to race. Although this happened during school hours, everyone had just as much time learning. My Experience with the Harvest Festival, by: Gladys It was the day of the Harvest Festival and I was so excited to eat the food people brought and to get my face painted, but before we could do all of that we needed to get everything ready. We got our jobs and my job was the obstacle course. After that we needed to set up our jobs, I finally finished setting up mine and it seemed pretty easy. After that we got recess because we finished early, and the whole time I played in the bouncy house. It was fun, but, at first, there was a long line, so that wasn’t fun. It was time for the Harvest Festival and I was on first shift. People came and we showed them how to play the obstacle course. They did so well because the obstacle was so easy, until they got to jumping through the hula hoops. Every single time they jumped through, they would fall and I was exhausted to put them back up so often. In total, we had like 20 to 26 people come. Our shift was about 1 hour and 30 minutes, but time flys - so it felt like 30 minutes. My shift was finally over and I so excited. I played with my friends; the first thing we did was eat some food because we were starving. By the time we got there almost half of the food was gone but there was still some yummy food left. After we were done we went to take some awesome pictures. Then we went to play dodgeball and it was really fun. After that, we went back to the cafeteria to eat the last bits of food that were left. Lastly, we needed to clean up and head home. Overall the Harvest Festival was really fun and I really liked it. I can’t wait till next year’s Harvest Festival. The Lunch Ladies, by: Noah J. These ladies do a big part to keep the kids working and not hungry and they are the LUNCH LADIES! The ladies in the lunchroom cook for a whole school every day! They make sure you aren't hungry. Rose, the manager, makes sure you eat all that you need they care about every single person every meal is healthy and carefully planned and made out. They say hello, if they know your name. They serve you with care and they offer you more salad and fruit if your are hungry. They are so nice; even when they are having a bad day, they make sure they don't show it. They never yell and they have a nice tone when talking to you. They also come to work early to make sure they never run out of food. Here's how they feel about the job: Annette says she loves her job and her students. She was asked if her job was stressful and she says no; it's great because of all the students. Rose says she gets appreciated by staff. She was asked if she had favorites and she said, “No, i love every student!” These ladies love the school and are dedicated to feeding and loving the students they care for. Go and thank the ladies in the lunchroom; they love you and a thank you helps brighten their day for the them. Cross Country: End of Season Review, by: Landon XC is officially over, and so is soccer. The end of two sports have also brought two new ones: girls volleyball and flag football. Our team has grown from running one mile all the way to three. All of are team members have met are goals for XC and some have even exceeded our goals. This shows that people actually cared about their performance, which is sometimes not the case. A useful teacher helps their children grow, learn, and improve. As a bad teacher doesn't care if the students are failing, some even find it amusing. That's why we are all extremely lucky to have awesome teachers who want us to strive and learn. DGS Football, by: Jason DGS’s football team has a lot of people to play games and we are going to play Merill on the 19th of October. We are also going to go to other games, like Place Bridge. We are going to play all the games two times, so that it will be fun. If we lose we will keep practicing, we are going to play harder and we will not give up. We need aggression and we also need to get in shape so that we can run long distances for a long time. DGS’s New Volleyball Team, by: Arlin DGS’s new Volleyball Team has a game against Merrill Middle School on Thursday, October 19. They will be traveling to Merrill middle school and be playing against them at 4:00 pm in the gym. The flag football team is also playing MMS and will be traveling with the volleyball team and their game will also start at 4:00pm. The volleyball team also has practice every Monday through Thursday. UPDATE: Today DGS has a Volleyball game against MMS at 4:00 pm in the MMS gym and we will at least win against Merrill Middle School. If we don’t win this game, we still have many more games to play and we should at least win one of the games in the season. How Journalism Works: by Heaven In journalism, we look for something interesting that is happening in school or that has already happened. Then on Tuesdays and Thursday, we write what we want to and make a article. Making this take time because we have to find something that is interesting to us that has happened or that is going to happen when we go in our journalism class. We have to write a whole article about what happening or what happened. This can sometimes be easy or it could be hard; sometimes it’s easy because you if have something that you want to write about and that you know about you can easily just type it in and it’s hard when you have to brainstorm about what you want to ride it out or if you pick a topic you have to do you research or interview someone. For me it’s taken me awhile to brainstorm articles. Math Class, by Mikayla For math class my class goes there first because my math teacher, Mr. Potter, is our homeroom teacher. We start of with first 15, where we have 15 minutes to work on a packet. Then we move onto the grapple, there is a word problem on the board, usually of something the whole class needs to work on. Then we do “which is correct?” there are student A and student B, they both do the same problem but one is incorrect and one is correct. The class tries to figure out what the other person did incorrect and, of course we figure out who is correct too. After that Mr.Potter does a mini lesson and our unit we are in is ratios and unit rates. Most of the class is the mini lesson but we learn something new everyday. I think that my best subject is math, and Mr. Potter helps us really understand the problems and if we need help he will give it to us. After math we go to literacy. The Story: The Last Chapter, by Melody Fadeyeva I watched him go to his locker to put on his school shoes. Then when he left, I stuck a love letter into his locker asking to meet me under the cherry blossom tree on Friday after school. I kissed it and then let it go hoping he would meet me there so I could confess my feelings for him. Mom was right, I did find my love. I just needed to wait for a while. Throughout the days, I was watching him talking to girls and hanging out with his friends. But what I loved, was that when he left some of his things lying around, I could grab it and put it in my shrine. The doctors never knew that I left and I haven’t heard from them ever since. The next day: Tuesday I saw him looking at the cherry tree a few times from the school rooftop, and a few girls started to talk to him a bit more often than I thought. Wednesday I only skipped a few classes just to see my senpai do his work. But if I keep it up, I might get suspended and I can’t afford that. Thursday Girls are REALLY starting to talk to him, and I’m getting mad about it but I can’t hurt them like mom did. -gasps- I noticed that his friends are trying to take the girls instead! I think it’s because they like the girls. Not trying to help out senpai getting together with me. That night, I watched senpai walk home safely (as always) when I noticed giggles. I didn’t follow it at first, but I got so curious. Then I noticed I was debating in my head whether to go or not. I chose to not go because tomorrow I will be with my love and I can’t take any risks right now. Friday At the end of the school day, I was waiting under the cherry tree for him to come. I then saw him running over, my heart skipped beats as he got closer and closer. When we were face to face, I told him,”I love you my senpai please accept my feelings.” He responded with,”Nah, I’m not looking for a girl right now. Bye!” Then he left. Heartbroken, scared, confused. I feel to my knees and just stared at the ground in disbelief. The end

Fall Sports by Arlin
There will be girl's volleyball and coed football tryouts coming on October 9th, and October 10th. In order to try out, you need gym clothes, a physical form from your doctor saying that it’s ok for you to play, and some athletic shoes. Denver Green School is planning to allow everyone that tries-out to be on the team. The Story by Melody First stop: The library. I got my phone taken away after my parents thought I was spending too much time on it. There are computers at the library and it’s really easy to track people down. Just by someone's dog name, you could know where they live. So I looked on Instagram but because it looks like Snapchat, it would be a little bit challenging finding him. I found some of his friends Snapchats and asked them Chris’s username. Then I found it. He was going out with Chole! I saw her always with him holding hands and sharing Ice cream in some of the pictures. Wait, these pictures were taken a few months ago! I guess he isn’t really on Instagram often. Just then, I noticed a couple walk into the library. It was Chloe and Chris. I went up to them with a fake smile on my face because they were holding hands. “Hey, guys! I see you’re dating.” “Yeah, Chris was just telling me this silly story about us breaking up! I don’t remember that at all.” “Heh-heh..” Chris replied uncomfortably. “You know, Chloe you should let go because Chris’s story is true. It’s all over the school but your friends are just hiding it from you so you won’t get hurt.” I lied just to see her cry. “What? How can you say that? You’re nobody!” Her tears started coming down. “Oh yeah? Well, I hear a lot of things because no one really pays any attention to me. Unlike you, they hid a LOT of things.” I smirk and then whispered to Chris,”Well Chris, who’s it going to be? Chloe, or Bianca? I know you like one of them the most.” “You better not be talking about me! UGH!! I’m out of here!” “SHH!” Shushed the librarians. Then she stomped out of there. I was holding my laughter so hard, my face turned into a red tomato. Chris asked,”Umm was that too far?” When I calmed down, I said,”No, that was the plan.” Then I walked out of the library and then stalked him from the window. Because of my father being an agent, I was VERY good at stalking people. I got my camera and while he was working on the computer, I took pictures of what he was looking at. Nothing of what he likes. Strange. Normally students search up things they like. He looks like a good student seeing how he isn’t dressed like one. Then, I found something disturbing. Earthquake Update in Mexico By Zander So far this week, there have been many earthquakes happening in Mexico, but the most recent and most devastating so far was a category 7.1 earthquake just 23 miles outside of Puebla, Mexico. In just four days, there have also been 11 other earthquakes around that area of Mexico. All the messes that all of these earthquakes have put up are catastrophic for all people in Mexico. Areas like Soledad, Mapastepec, Arriaga, San Miguel Chimalapa, Ixtepec, Santo Domingo Ingenio, and Matias Romero Avendano have all been hit or been near all these earthquakes and all of them have been about at least 6 miles away from the nearest city in Mexico. Buildings have collapsed, the damage has spread miles upon miles throughout all of the lands. Catastrophic events like this can’t be prevented. But people can help by bringing resources to people in need who have lost their homes, loved ones, and public cities. People can also make donations to the people who have lost their resources as well. Donations of all sizes will help the people in need from these catastrophes. Every donation counts! The next day after I got home, I started packing because there was only one day left. The next day it was the day of the excursion! We were getting our stuff to get on the bus we waited a long time because we were getting everything ready. But finally got on the bus and were on the way to the camping excursion. The ride there took forever and I was exhausted. When we got there I was so excited. The first thing we did was eat burritos. It was delicious but after I ate a lot I felt like I was gonna throw up, but after a few minutes, I felt better. We setup our tent and went on hikes and the hikes took a long time. When we came back it was night time and we got ready for bed but before we went to bed we went by the campfire and we did a talent show and that was really fun. Overall I really liked my first excursion at DGS, and I look forward to going to another one. Optional Hike Essay by Arlin In order to go on a hike with Mr. T. and the specials, teachers are to write an essay with ACED paragraphs that proves you deserve to go on the hike. The essay should be about how you are academically eligible to go to the hike with Mr.Truitt and some of the special teachers. Email your essay to Keith_Truitt@denvergreenschool.
